Confirmed: Ralph Rangnick’s availability for Arsenal clash

Rangnick takes over

Just over a week after Manchester United cut ties with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the back of a 4-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road, they have found a new manager.

Speculation swirled for the first few days around the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique, Erik Ten Hag or even Rudi Garcia, but ultimately it is an interim boss that United have opted for, in the shape of Ralph Rangnick.

Well, sort of. As per various outlets, Rangnick has become the Manchester United manager on an interim basis until the end of the season, but will be around the club far longer, with a two-year consultancy period having been agreed as well.

Arsenal too soon

Arsenal are the last of the traditional top 6 to take on Manchester United, with the Gunners travelling to Old Trafford on Thursday night.

However, there is far more concern about when he will be able to take charge. Previously, it was thought that he would be able to be in the dugout for the game against Arsenal, however as per David Ornstein of The Athletic:

“His appointment is expected to be confirmed in the next 24 hours but it is not yet clear whether his first game in charge will be Thursday’s visit of Arsenal or Crystal Palace’s trip to Old Trafford on December 5.”

And now, as per BBC Sport, it is confirmed that Rangnick will not be in the dugout against Arsenal. Why?

Well, as per Simon Stone, the club are “continuing to work through visa and COVID process.”

This means that Michael Carrick will have another crack at being in charge, this time against another high flying side in Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Will he be able to pull off another positive result?
