Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is finally available on home media. Simu Liu’s Marvel debut hit cinemas at the tail-end of summer and proved to audiences worldwide that films could be profitable in the pandemic era. One of Marvel Studios’ most beloved films, Shang-Chi put the focus on the importance of family and rifts between father and sons, a common theme in the studios’ ever-expanding output.
A new deleted scene doubles down on the family themes and reveals that Shang-Chi has a brother… kind of. The scrapped scene takes place at Wenwu’s compound in the second act, where Shang-Chi and co. have been brought. There, Wenwu likens villain Razor Fist as Shang-Chi’s brother, something the Marvel hero dismisses. The scene also gives some context to Razor Fist’s character, revealing that his name is Mattias and that Wenwu took him in because he reminded him of his son, hence why he refers to them as brothers.
While the scene does give additional context to Wenwu’s time without Shang-Chi and builds up Razor Fist’s character, it definitely doesn’t hold much momentum. Still, it’s great that Marvel Studios released the deleted scene for all to see, as it can now stand as a relic amongst all the other scrapped footage from the franchise.
